London, UK, Tuesday 02 May 2023 – MetaRex, is proud to announce the launch of a new collaborative metadata initiative at The Media Production and Technology Show on Stand H24. The project aims to revolutionise how metadata is transported, identified, exchanged, and used in media production, content management, distribution, broadcast and streaming. Led by renowned media technologist Bruce Devlin, MetaRex promises to change how professionals handle and utilise metadata throughout the media supply chain.

The main goal of the MetaRex project is to give away Free Open Source Software to reduce the barrier to entry of making metadata flow along the entire supply chain from glass to glass. MetaRex is a collaborative effort that brings together diverse experts in media technology to refine a unifying metadata transport container that will streamline media production workflows across different platforms, formats, and applications.

Bruce Devlin, the MetaRex Executive Director, is a media technologist with over 30 years of experience in the industry. He founded Mr MXF Ltd, which provides high tech consultancy services and was also the Standards Vice President of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE). He is well known for his work developing widely deployed global standards including MXF and IMF.

“We are thrilled to officially launch MetaRex at the Media Production and Technology Show,” said Bruce Devlin. “This initiative has been in the works for a while, and we are excited to finally share it with the industry. Our goal is to simplify metadata handling so that preserving and exploiting metadata can be done identically in both cloud-first and traditional linear workflows. We’ll reveal what we’re up to and discuss its importance during a panel with Anna Valley, Garden Studios and Eluvio.io on the second day of the show at 16:00.”

The Media Production and Technology Show is one of the UK’s largest trade shows for media production and technology. It brings together professionals from the industry to showcase the latest products and services in the field.

MetaRex will be officially launched at the Media Production and Technology Show, which will take place on May 10 & 11, 2023, at Olympia, London. Professionals in the industry are encouraged to attend the event to learn more about MetaRex and how it can reduce production, workflow development and integration costs and enable enhanced content customisation and discoverability.
