Movicom and Aximmetry announce successful AR tracking test for broadcast

Movicom, a provider of specialty cable camera systems, and Aximmetry, a developer of AR/VR graphics software for broadcast, recently conducted a successful test of their mutual technologies.  Movicom provided the cable camera system and output precise positional tracking data for the camera head as well as lens and focus information, via their software package called ‘Compass AR’. While Aximmetry was able to input that positional data into their graphics software engine, called Aximmetry Broadcast Edition, and ‘overlay’ 3D virtual graphics elements that looked like they were in the live video scene.

“I’m delighted we had the opportunity to test Movicom’s tracking system with Aximmetry. The interfacing was really easy: the system sent correctly calibrated positional data right away, and it only needed minimal setup on our side. Our AR graphics were on the field in the blink of an eye, and we were happy with the result.” Said Zoltan Motyan, CTO at Aximmetry. The system was put through its paces, flying around and over the virtual 3D objects like moving race cars and static graphics. The critical issues such as maintaining ‘floor’ level, and graphic ‘sliding’ were looked at and were found to be perfectly aligned, which was, essentially, the point of the test.  Other technical questions were explored, including graphics placement, positioning in 3D space, and shadow placement, all worked as expected.

“We’re very happy to be able to confirm that our systems work together,” said Victor Pakhomov, CEO at Movicom, “we had suspected that given our tech specs everything should work together, but until one does a test one can never be sure. This way we’re ready for work with actual clients. And we’re happy to add Aximmetry to the long list of other graphics software that we currently support.” He added.

Robycam Head Movicom scaled

Movicom is a world leader in robotic specialty camera equipment for live, studio, and outside broadcasting applications.  Featuring the Robycam line of cable-suspended camera systems that easily incorporate AR graphics and automated control with gyro-stabilized camera heads in 4-point and 2-point configurations for all major sports in any time of environment.

In addition to aerial camera systems Movicom manufactures rail camera and robotic heads that provide positional information compatible with all major vendor AR graphics systems. Movicom has provided specialty cameras like RefCams and TowerCams for major international events and tournaments. Integrating hardware and software for camera motion is the company’s hallmark.

Aximmetry virtual production platform provides end-to-end, real-time 3D graphics and virtual studio solutions for the broadcast and entertainment industries. Aximmetry’s ambition is to make high-end virtual studio software technology accessible to all, small TV stations, Youtubers, and Vloggers included. Aximmetry offers the choice of two real-time rendering engines: Aximmetry’s own engine and Unreal Engine integration. Aximmetry also has its own advanced chroma keying technology which is included in all their software licenses. Their node-based editor can be molded to any specific project to give great flexibility in bringing it to life; be it broadcast production, virtual event, pre-visualisation, AR or XR project or any other 3D graphics task one can imagine.
