Leighton Buzzard, UK, 21 June 2023: Custom Consoles Module-R technical furniture and MediaWall multiscreen video monitor supports have been chosen for the London studios of a UK-based free-to-air broadcaster. The new facilities include four desks based on the Module-R series and three MediaWalls.

“The client is a long established terrestrial and satellite television network which we have been very proud to serve for many years,” says Gary Fuller, sales manager at Custom Consoles. “Module-R and MediaWall were selected both for their ergonomic qualities and their resilient build. The modularity of Module-R desks and MediaWall gives our customers the freedom to specify practically any combination of features and dimensions. Individual modules and sections can be modified easily to match changes in creative workflow. All Module-R desks are designed and built to ensure a long service life and come with a five-year guarantee against component failure during normal use. Some installations have been in operation for more than 12 years.”

“Module-R allows the exact combination of control desk features to be specified for a given project without incurring the high cost of tailor-made equivalents,” adds Neil Reed, Custom Consoles’ managing director. “The desks are based on single bay units which can be combined easily into a robust single structure. Each bay is predrilled in multiple positions to permit easy mounting of support arms for video display screens and computer monitors. Monitors can be fitted during the initial installation or added later if needed to match a different workflow.”

Largest of the four desks specified for the latest project is a rectangular production control unit spanning 13 bays in width and configured for use by up to eight operators. A vision production switcher is integrated across three of the central bays. Each bay incorporates a worktop-level 3U high sloping-front equipment pod at the rear of the worktop plus an individually-adjustable computer displays. The desk faces a MediaWall supporting a 4 wide x 2 high matrix of 55 inch video monitors, smaller supplementary monitors and loudspeakers.

The MCR desk is of similar style with 4U high equipment pods plus a computer monitor above eight of its 12 bays.

Each of two sound control suites have also been equipped with Module-R and MediaWall. The largest of these installations comprises a four-bay wide single-operator unit with an audio mixer bridging the second bay. Bay 3 is a 13U high equipment pod coupled to a 2.3 metre side desk linking forward to a large audio production console. These collectively form a U-shaped structure configured for two operators facing a 3.3 metre wide floor-to-ceiling height MediaWall. The smaller sound control suite has a 3-bay wide single operator desk facing a 2 metre wide MediaWall. The desk incorporates 9U of equipment storage space supplemented by 13U of in a side unit forming a L configuration. A 6U equipment pod is located on top of the side desk.

Widely used by broadcasters in many countries, Module-R bay is fitted with 19 inch racking to accommodate power distribution units and termination panels. Cable management is also included so wiring to be concealed right through to floor level while permitting access whenever needed. Equipment housings are provided along the rear of each desk, either to desktop height or beyond if required. These housings have forward and rear facing access doors to simplify routine equipment maintenance.

MediaWall provides the same combination of structural rigidity and operational versatility as Module-R. Flat-screen video displays of practically any size can be mounted in almost any configuration. Based on height-adjustable horizontal beams and T-slot mounts, each MediaWall frame is fully adjustable to ensure optimal sight lines.
